Suspects arrested for illegal possession of state firearms

Two suspects were found in possession of state firearms in eSikhaleni on Monday morning.

It is not clear how these firearms ended up in the hands of the individuals.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase explained that crime prevention unit members were doing routine patrols when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with six occupants parked at the filling station.

“They searched the vehicle and one 9mm pistol and a state firearm were recovered from a suspect. A second suspect was found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol, and the last suspect was found in possession of a Z 88 9mm pistol belonging to the state. All these three firearms will be sent for ballistic investigation, and also to find out how they ended up in the hands of these suspects,” he said.

He added that the three suspects are expected to appear at the eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court soon.
