No E.coli in drinking water, City of uMhlathuze assures residents

E.coli warning is false news, says uMhlathuze deputy mayor after old message sparks panic

uMhlathuze Municipality has labelled as false and misleading, messages of E.coli detection in the city’s water supply.

This follows the resurfacing and circulation of a media statement from 2017, which was responding to water quality concerns at the time – but has now caused panic among residents.

The municipality has, however, refuted the recent claims and assured residents that the ‘water undergoes continuous testing at the waterworks, alongside additional samples taken throughout the system to ensure its safety and quality’.

Samples were taken this week to ascertain that the water is safe for consumption.

Addressing residents on Thursday evening, uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Christo Botha gave assurance that ‘there is nothing wrong with the water’, and urged residents to disregard the rumours and fake messages.
