Severe wind warning for KZN coastline

SA Weather Services issues warning for strong, damaging winds

A yellow level 2 warning for strong, damaging winds is in place for the KZN coastline from Durban to Richards Bay for this afternoon (Thursday) and into this evening.

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued the warning earlier this morning, and is in place from 2pm to 8pm.

This as a cold front approaches from the southwest, with a high pressure system dominating the east of the country.

Wind speeds of 20 – 30 knots (37 – 55km/h) are expected, reaching 35 – 40 knots (64 – 74km/h) in places.

Potential impacts include disruption to roads due to crosswinds and fallen objects; localised disruptions to ports and difficulty in navigating for small vessels; localised damage to temporary structures along the coastline, and coastal communities affected by spray.
