Illegal taverns shut down during joint operation

Action taken against illicit liquor trading in KwaZulu-Natal as joint operation nets results

In attempts to rid KZN of illicit liquor trading, firm action is being levelled against those responsible of the illegal practice.

This as police confiscated more than 500 litres of illicit liquor and shut down three taverns operating without licences.

This was during a joint operation conducted by the KZN Liquor Authority, police and a private security company on Friday night.

“Our strategic initiative is aimed at tackling non-compliance issues among liquor license holders and close illegal outlets,” said Carol Mbhele from the KZN Liquor Authority.

“These operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the KZN Liquor Authority to its mandate of controlling and regulating liquor sales in the province.

“We remain steadfast and resolve to intensify these enforcement operations while concurrently educating licence holders on the importance of adhering to their conditions.

“We implore the public to promptly report any instances of liquor sales occurring without proper permits and any instances of manufacturing illicit liquor,” she said.
