Heroin, weapons seized in Zululand police sting operation

Heroin with street value of more than R100 000 confiscated, suspect arrested

Police are determined to clamp down on drug dealing and the illegal possession of firearms in the Zululand region.

To this end, on Saturday, the Zululand district task team members working with the Vryheid Crime Intelligence unit arrested a 33-year-old suspect for possession of two firearms in the Hlobane area.

The suspect was found in possession of a 9mm and a shot gun.

Captain Nkosie Gwala explained that on Sunday, SAPS members from Vryheid, Gluckstadt, as well as private security guards acting on a tip-off arrested a second suspect, aged 30, for possession of 27 balls of heroin weighing a total of 270 grams with an estimated street value of R135 000.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
