Floating library’ docks at Port of Richards Bay

The world's largest floating library glided serenely into the Port of Richards Bay

The much-anticipated arrival of MV Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating library, was celebrated on Saturday evening as she glided serenely into the Port of Richards Bay.

The Sea Rescue flagship vessel Ocean Guardian went out to meet the flag-clad ship’s 400 international crew members from 60 nations, for a grand welcome at the start of a four-week stay that will end on 19 February.

Thousands of locals are expected to visit the vast library and engage in numerous activities on board.

Apart from over 5 000 book titles for sale, daily activities at the Small Craft Harbour berth will cater for children, teens, adults and church leaders.

Entrance fee is a mere R10 per person, with children under 12 and seniors over 65 given free admission.

A children’s play, The Greatest Treasure will showcase on Thursdays (25 January, and 1 and 8 February) from 9am to 10am and 11am to 12 noon.

Schools may block book reservations by emailing sarah.mueller@gbaships.org

The vessel is open daily from 1pm to 7pm, and on Saturdays from 11am to 7pm.

Crew members will also be visiting local communities for outreach efforts.
