WATCH: eNseleni under siege as protesting residents demand electricity restoration

Residents claim they have been disconnected from the electricity grid

Everything was at a standstill at eNseleni this (Monday) morning as residents blockaded all the township’s roads with rocks, and burning rubble and tyres.

Residents of Etsheni and Jamela claim they have been disconnected from the electricity grid owing to a damaged transformer.

One of the residents, Sifiso Pule revealed that only emergency services, such as nurses working at the local clinic, have been able to get to work.

“We have been without electricity for more than a year. The City of uMhlathuze is aware of our plight but no one is willing to assist us,” said Pule.

Police are in the area monitoring the situation. The blocked roads were however all cleared by 9:20am.
