WATCH: Communities, motorists warned as rivers, streams overflow

Motorists travelling in various parts of the province are urged to exercise extreme caution owing to numerous sinkholes and flooding is some parts.

This as KZN Disaster Management teams continue to monitor water levels and to assist in area that have suffered extensive damage owing heavy rains in the past couple of days including yesterday (Wednesday).

“Our preliminary reports indicate significant flooding on several roads, with fallen trees obstructing traffic flow. Some of these affected roads will remain temporarily closed until they undergo thorough assessment and are certified safe for public use.

The department further warned that rivers and streams continue to overflow.

“We are pleading with communities to avoid attempting to cross swollen rivers, which could potentially lead to loss of life.

“Given that some low-lying bridges are submerged, we appeal to motorists to refrain from crossing these areas,” the department stated.
