In an attempt to make up for lost academic time during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the Department of Education has whittled down school holidays for the 2024 academic year.
Teachers and pupils alike should brace themselves for fewer days off as school holidays have been worked around public holidays to ensure fewer days off.
Pupils and teachers will enjoy just 25 days off this year compared with the 33 and 32 days in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

This year’s school calendar was designed to ensure terms have no disruptions.
Only two days of learning will be lost to public holidays – one each in terms two and three, with the rest of the national public holidays taking place during school holidays.
In addition, a total of 203 days make up the school calendar, which is four more than last year’s 199 days.
The 2024 school year will commence on 17 January and conclude on 11 December.
