Of the 172 New Year’s Day babies born in the province, 28 were to teenage mothers – one of whom was only 14 years old.
This was revealed by KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane, who is gravely concerned about the high rate of unplanned pregnancies.
She urges parents and guardians to speak openly about sexual reproductive health with their children.
