N2 tanker recovery causes havoc for motorists
Motorists endured either major delays or the bumpy, gravel alternative route
The recovery today (Tuesday) of a gas tanker that veered off the N2 south of Mtubatuba last week caused havoc on the national route as motorists were forced to either endure massive delays or use a bumpy gravel alternative road.
Some motorists reported having sat in gridlocked traffic for what seemed like hours, reaching their destinations much later than anticipated.

Owing to the higher-than-normal volumes of traffic on the alternative gravel route, major delays were also experienced at the KwaMsane intersection connecting to the N2.
By late afternoon, the truck’s trailer had been recovered, while it is expected that the horse will be recovered from within the residential area rather than from the N2.
The accident occurred on Friday, but recovery was delayed until after the long weekend owing to the expectation of high volumes of festive season traffic.
It was reported from the scene on Friday that the tanker experienced brake malfunction and side-swiped a truck travelling in the opposite direction.
No injuries were reported from the scene, and the tanker is believed to have been empty at the time.
