Richards Bay SAPS has opened a community service centre

Richards Bay SAPS opened their community service centre at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, where locals can access certain services, including certifying of documents, affidavits, and crime prevention pamphlets.

The office is on the top level near entrance 4, next to Checkers, and will be open daily from 8am to 4pm.

The initiative has been ongoing for over a decade and is a partnership with the mall to increase police visibility in the CBD during the festive period.

This as the influx of tourists and residents on holiday brings an added security threat.

King Cetshwayo district commissioner Major General Sipho Ngubane welcomed the initiative and thanked mall management for their ongoing support, and for the premises from which to operate.

Officially opening the mini police station at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre are Major General Sipho Ngubane and Brigadier Mhluleli Mngomezulu (station commander)

”We strive to keep our citizens safe and we cannot do this without all stakeholders, CPFs, security companies, businesses and community members,” said Ngubane.

“Firearms remain a problem as there are many illegal weapons in circulation. We call on residents to report these crimes to get these guns off our streets.

“We know there will be many people receiving grants, bonuses and stockvel payments, and we ask them to be extra careful this festive season.

“We have increased our outdoor officers, and our admin staff will be joining operations on the ground to further increase numbers.

“New vehicles have been added to our fleet, and we look forward to more visibility and operations. We know community members will utilise the services at the mini police station from now until 8 January,” he said.
