Municipality injects millions into Richards Bay electricity network

Recent unplanned power outages affecting Birdswood, Mandlazini and Veldenvlei have prompted the City of uMhlathuze to temporarily exempt these areas from load-shedding for the coming weeks.

This after residents in these suburbs endured hours without power last week.

The municipality says it has been busy upgrading the Vega substation, which supplies electricity to residents in these areas (block 3), as part of ongoing efforts to reduce overloading and to ease pressure on the network.
