WATCH: Killing of KZN councillors condemned

Concern over political killings in KZN

The ongoing spate of political killings in KZN continues to receive widespread condemnation, with calls for justice being made.

Salga KZN Chairperson Thami Ntuli has this (Wednesday) afternoon joined many in expressing concern about the merciless killing of among others, ward councillors and politicians.

This follows the brutal murder of Cllr Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, the DA Chief Whip of uMngeni Local Municipality, at his home on Tuesday evening.

While the circumstances around his death have yet to be confirmed, Ntuli has called for concerted efforts to fight against this scourge.

“We must stand together against this kind of violence. People are being killed like animals and the mass shootings in the province are evidence that no one is safe,” said Ntuli.

The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) also extended condolences to Ndlovu’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that one of our municipalities has yet again lost a public representative through a heinous act that continues to plague our province.

“We are particularly saddened that incidents of killing our democratically elected councillors continue to happen in our municipalities at a time when we thought the dark cloud had passed as our democracy has matured,” the department stated.

DA KZN leader, Francois Rodgers urged the police “…to bring Councillor Ndlovu’s killers to book without delay”.

“The DA sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Councillor Ndlovu, the DA caucus in uMngeni, and the residents of the municipality that have lost a humble servant who always put the needs of those he served above his own,” said Rodgers.
