Bad weather warning for Zululand region
The areas to be affected include uMhlathuze, Nkandla, uMlalazi
Thunderstorms have been forecast for parts of KZN, including the Zululand region this (Tuesday) afternoon.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning, in effect from 1pm to 11pm.
The areas to be affected include uMhlathuze, Nkandla, uMlalazi, with residents warned to brace for strong, damaging winds, hail, heavy downpours and severe lightning.
KZN disaster management teams are on high alert in the affected municipalities as the weather conditions may result in damage to infrastructure, settlements and livestock.
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has urged motorists and residents to take precautionary measures.
“We urge communities to exercise caution and consider avoiding travel on bridges and roads in low-lying areas, as they may be susceptible to flooding and sinkholes.
“Additionally, outdoor activities should be avoided, as lightning, hail and flooding can lead to injuries and fatalities,” the department said.
