Four armed robbery suspects nabbed

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was also positively linked to a Cato Manor case

TEAMWORK certainly does make the dream work, and led to the successful apprehension on Wednesday of four armed robbery suspects, as well as the seizure of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to Fidelity Service Group’s marketing officer, Charnel Hattingh, the security company was tipped off about four suspects carrying 9mm pistols who were allegedly involved in an armed robbery in eShowe and fled south on the N2 towards Durban.

Their Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) members joined Metro, the SAPS K9 unit and other security stakeholders in pursuit of the suspects.
The vehicle was intercepted on Old Inanda Road on the M27 and the suspects were tactically removed from the vehicle.

“A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted and various items were recovered, including three 9mm pistols, live rounds of ammunition, a SAPS cap, a police reflector vest, multiple cellphones from the robbery and multiple sim cards,” said Hattingh.

“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was also positively linked to a Cato Manor case.”

The suspects were handed over to the Verulam SAPS for arrest on charges of business robbery and theft, unlawful possession of firearms, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“We congratulate everyone involved for their great teamwork in bringing these suspects to book,” added Hattingh.
