“Money is not for councillors”, says KZN Premier

Thousands of residents are part of an ongoing Premier’s Imbizo in eSikhaleni

KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has cracked the whip on ward councillors who give employment opportunities to their families and political friends.

Dube-Ncube said this during her address at the Premier’s Imbizo at uMfolozi TVET College in eSikhaleni.

The Imbizo was part of Operation Sukuma Sakhe aimed at tackling service delivery issues pertaining to communities within the King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

“Councillors cannot hire their friends or force residents to be members of their political parties.

“This is illegal and it must be reported so that people can get opportunities,” said Dube-Ncube.

Issues that were raised by residents are lack of job opportunities, housing programmes, water and sanitation and many other issues.

The Premier was accompanied by members of the Executive Council who are currently listening to community members as they highlighted their plight concerning service delivery issues and social ills.

Officials from Home Affairs, SASSA and other government departments were also present to offer essential services to the community.
