Severe thunderstorms ahead for KZN

Take caution when travelling or avoid travelling as roads may be flooded

Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours and strong, damaging winds are expected in parts of KZN later today (Thursday).

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms, effective from 2pm until 11pm.
Nkandla and uMlalazi are among the affected areas.

The heavy downpours could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution.

“Avoid travelling on low-lying roads and low bridges as they are susceptible to flooding. Take caution when travelling or avoid travelling as roads may be flooded and potholes may be filled with water and there may be sinkholes,” warned SAWS.

Meanwhile, the weather service says cloudy and warm, but cool weather is expected in the southwest.

The wind along the coast will also be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly, south of Richards Bay until midday, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly north of Richards Bay.
