N2 road closure for routine Eskom maintenance

Closures will affect both and north- and southbound carriageways

Motorists using the N2 in Mtubatuba are advised of intermittent road closures to the freeway this weekend.

Closures will affect both and north- and southbound carriageways in the vicinity of the Mtubatuba Eskom substation between 7am and 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 October.

This is to replace overhead line conductors that provide electricity to the area.

According to Eskom’s Joyce Zingoni, the replacement of the overhead line conductors is routine maintenance.

“There will be stop-go procedures for approximately 10 to 15 minutes as the cables are manoeuvred across that section of the N2. Longer delays are expected as the clutch of cables increases in number. These partial closures are conducted over the weekend as traffic is expected to be less heavy,” said Sanral in a statement.

“All necessary road crossing signs will be set up to alert motorists travelling on this route. The closure may need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions on the day and, if necessary, a further notice with new times will be issued.

“Motorists are urged to proceed with caution and adhere to the posted speed limits.”

The roads agency said it apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the co-operation of motorists.

“Sanral takes its mandate seriously in maintaining the national road network, and to provide for the safety and well-being of all road users and the communities in which it operates.”
