Waterbombers have taken to the skies over Richards Bay in an attempt to begin dousing the blazing inferno at the woodchip mill.
Planes will join the aerial bombardment of the blaze as Zululand fire protection officer Tony Roberts co-ordinates efforts from 6am tomorrow (Monday).

Speaking to the Zululand Observer, Roberts said it would take at least one month for the fire to burn out, and that it could not be extinguished owing to the magnitude of the woodchip stockpiles.
“The focus is to douse the TWK chips so they don’t go up in smoke,” said Roberts.
This as the NCT stockpiles are not salvageable.
Roberts confirmed that the fire is contained and that residents of Arboretum and other suburbs are not at risk.
