Children badly burnt in blaze due to broken fire trucks

Two children almost lost their lives owing to the absence of firetrucks at the Bucanana Fire Station

The absence of fire trucks at Bucanana Fire Station almost cost two children their lives as a raging inferno gutted their home.

A fire broke out at the Mwandla family’s home on Sunday, 10 September and could not be attended to immediately owing to no working fire engines at the local station.

This was revealed by one of the firefighters who said the fire was not far from the station.

“When we received the emergency call, we immediately phoned the Richards Bay Fire Station asking them to dispatch firefighters as we had no trucks or a bakkie to extinguish the blaze.

“During that time, the fire engulfed the entire house. We do not have fire trucks here at the station,” she said.
