WATCH: New speaker elected for King Cetshwayo District council

Her election follows the resignation of Pastor Ivan Naidoo who has now officially retired.

IFP Councillor Siphesihle Mkhwanazi has been elected as council speaker of King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

Mkhwanazi was elected in a meeting held in the municipal chambers on Thursday.

Her election follows the resignation of Pastor Ivan Naidoo who has now officially retired.

Under the watchful eye of IEC district officials, Mkhwanazi received the most votes against the ANC’s preferred candidate Cllr ME Dlamini.

An elated Mkhwanazi said, while she was ready to take up the position, she admitted to having very big shoes to fill.

“I will have to rely on prayer and God as Pastor Ivan did, to see me through this journey,” she said.
