Dangerous crèche facility demolished
It was dilapidated and posed a danger to the children and Early Childhood Development staff
Less than a week after shutting down a Nongoma crèche, which posed a danger to children, a prefab unit has been delivered to provide temporary relief.
Director-general at the Office of the Premier, Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, commented on the day of delivery.
“We ordered the crèche be closed down and demolished with immediate effect because it was dilapidated and posed a danger to the children and Early Childhood Development staff.
“We mark the start of Public Service Month in September by fulfilling the commitment of provincial government to being responsive to the needs, especially of the poor and vulnerable.”
Mkhize explained that this is a temporary measure but provides a safer environment for the children of Nongoma.
“Children in rural areas or relatively underprivileged socio-economic conditions should not be prejudiced from receiving quality education.
“This is the message we bring here from Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube who called for this urgent intervention,” she said.
