Comrades organisers confirm 2024 marathon route
Endurance runners have been waiting with baited breath to find out which direction next year's Comrades will be run
Confirmation was issued by the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA), that next year’s Ultimate Human Race will indeed be an up-run.
The 97th running of the world’s biggest, oldest and most famous ultramarathon will start in Durban and finish in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, 9 June 2024.

This after two consecutive down runs, this year and last year.
CMA chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo confirmed the good news after a board meeting on Wednesday, saying, “Runners have been awaiting confirmation of the direction of next year’s race and we are pleased to announce that the 2024 Comrades Marathon will finish in the City of Choice, Pietermaritzburg.”
A variety of factors influenced both 2022 and 2023 being down-runs, not least the ongoing roadworks on the N3 in the Pietermaritzburg area.
Word on the street, however, is that the Comrades organisers wanted a down-run for the running of the 100th marathon, which will be the 100th running of the Ultimate Human Race, thereby necessitating two consecutive down runs prior to this anniversary.
