Suspect nabbed after shooting a policeman

An Empangeni SAPS officer escaped with just an injured elbow after being shot at close range near
the Rail.

A manhunt was launched to flush out the suspects from the bush, but they escaped.

According to the King Cetshwayo Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase, the Economic
Infrastructure Task Team and KwaMbonambi Task Team followed up on information about the suspects involved in the shooting.

On Thursday, they headed to Nqolothi Reserve outside Ngwelezane where a 33-year-old suspect was found in possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and
drugs.

“These members continued to a second suspect’s residence, but could not find him,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He is expected to appear at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
