Port of Richards Bay reopened for truck traffic

While Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has uplifted the non-compliance order against a Richards Bay port terminal operator, transporters are being urged not to dispatch trucks to the Port of Richards Bay for the next 12 hours.

This amid efforts to clear a backlog created by the halting of operations on Thursday.

A stop work certificate was issued to the terminal operator as a result of non-compliance to environmental management issues.

The order has since been uplifted.

“The terminal operator has since presented an implementation plan and committed to resolving the environmental management issues stipulated in the certificate.

“It has been noted that the terminal operator has already started implementing the remedial action.

“The Ports Authority remains committed to exercising its terminal oversight role and thus continues to closely monitor the execution of the terminal operator’s plan,” said Moshe Motlohi, TNPA Managing Executive in the Eastern Region.
