Shaka Ilembe – a feast for a king

Part of the top cast include former Zululander Lemogang Tsipa who plays the role of Shaka

Top South African stars and A-listers stepped out for a dazzling night at the MonteCasino cinema complex in Johannesburg on Tuesday for the first episode screening of Mzansi Magic’s new drama series Shaka Ilembe.

The event not only showcased the Nguni culture but welcomed a stylish line-up of celebrity guests.

Opening the official screening was the series’ soundtrack and ‘amahubo’ music composer, eShowe musician Mbuso Khoza, who mesmerised the audience with vocal powerhouse Ann Masina.

Ayanda MaNgubane Borotho led the pre-screening formal proceedings, followed by creative director Angus Gibson of Bomb Productions and MultiChoice general entertainment CEO Nomsa Philiso.

“For decades we have showcased the strength and skill of local filmmakers and Shaka Ilembe represents the epitome of this investment,” said Philiso.

“We are proud of this title and hope that our viewers will see that we worked to respect Nguni culture and traditions while delivering an entertaining series on an epic scale that truly befits the era of Kings and Queens it brings to life.”

Part of the top cast include former Zululander Lemogang Tsipa who plays the role of Shaka, executive producer Nomzamo Mbatha, young star Ntando Zondi, Dawn Thandeka King, Hope Mbhele, and Sthandiwe Kgoroge along with, Mondli Makhoba, Senzo Radebe, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Wiseman Mncube, and Mduduzi Mabaso.
