Big send-off for Richards Bay Comrades runners

Vice-president of operations at South32, Calvin Mkhabela, together with the management team on Thursday wished the Hillsiders running Sunday’s Comrades Marathon every success.

Welile Mdunge, Desmond Shabalala, Kevin Boyder, Senzo Mthethwa and Phelelani Shabalala will join athletes from 84 countries as they embark on the down run in this the 96th edition of the race, finishing at Kingsmead Stadium.

“Our wish is that each one of you will set out with a positive mindset as you stand on the starting line. For each stage of this marathon, we hope you will dig deep and allow the fountain of fortitude within you to push you closer to the finish line,” said Mkhabela.”All the best team… we are rooting for you!”

Meanwhile, Zululand Multi Sport Club (ZMSC) on Wednesday evening held a send-off event for the club’s runners competing in the Comrades.

Of the club’s nine Comrades entrants, four are novices and three are going for their back-to-back medals.
