Mayor calls for government intervention to fix Richards Bay road

The RBM access road is closed after a massive sinkhole developed in recent rains

Umfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu has pleaded for intervention from the provincial Department of Transport.

This after the recent heavy rains that caused much damage to the roads within the municipal area that fall under the department, including the Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) access road.

He said, while constant communication between his office and the department was effective, the service delivery to residents as mandated by the Constitution was lagging from their side.

“In the last consultation with the department, they cited a shortage of diesel to deliver the resources required for fixing a sinkhole caused by rain,” said Bhengu.

He said the municipality was grateful for the assistance of RBM, which has always offered to assist whenever they call.

“They promise to fix the road soon.

“This has affected learners, workers and the community at large as they are delayed when going to clinics and schools,” added Bhengu.
