Some residents reported that they did not send their children to school owing to the heavy rains.

Heavy rainfall which began on Monday and intensified this morning (Wednesday) has affected parts of Mtubatuba.

Khula Village, which is usually prone to flooding and was severely impacted during last year’s flooding, has also been affected during this latest round of heavy weather.

Some residents reported that they did not send their children to school owing to the heavy rains.

Contacted on Wednesday morning, Ward Councillor Ntokozo Mlungwana said he was, while the rain was still falling heavily, assessing the area to see what damage had been done.

“The situation is bad. The roads are flooded and people are affected. But we are trying to assess the damage and will have proper feedback as the day progresses,” said Mlungwana.

He urged residents to stay indoors.

He added that some roads were inaccessible, some homes were flooded, as were some yards, and that after the assessment it would be determined what can be done to assist the affected residents.

Mtubatuba Municipality communications manager Khulekani Msweli said disaster management had not yet received any reports of damage.

It was also reported earlier this morning that the N2 north of KwaMbonambi was flooded in parts.
