Youths rescue ensnared bird in Meerensee

Help was at hand in the form of a young couple who were fishing for bass when they spotted the stricken bird

The dangers of environmental pollution from human thoughtlessness were evidenced at the small lake behind Marlin Mall in Meerensee on Sunday when a hadeda ibis was found ensnared in a plastic bag.

Fortunately for this particular creature, help was at hand in the form of a young couple who were fishing for bass when they spotted the stricken bird.

Tyson Barnes and Kate Brits, well known in local surfing circles, soon freed the hadeda, and made sure it recovered and was still healthy enough to be released back into the wild.
