Richards Bay ‘acid smell’ under investigation

Following numerous complaints of an acid smell affecting parts of Richards Bay this morning (Sunday), Foskor, while admitting their granulation plant alarm was activated, has informed the Richards Bay Clean Air Association (RBCAA) it was a ‘false alarm’.

“The RBCAA has informed Foskor that their finding is not accepted in view of the fact that there were accompanying odour complaints,” said the RBCAA’s Sandy Camminga.

One Arboretum resident said his throat burnt he coughed so much he almost threw up when driving past Foskor en route to work this morning.

Camminga said the RBCAA will take the matter further with Foskor senior management.
