Mtubatuba Mayor Mxolisi Mthethwa has assured residents that the construction of a hospital in the area will indeed materialise.
Speaking at the municipality’s draft budget at the Prince Mzondeni Hall on Wednesday, Mthethwa admitted that talks of the hospital have made the municipality ‘look like a joke’ in the eyes of the public, but assured that plans were afoot for this to come to fruition.
“We wish to share with all communities the issue of the hospital, that there are several things we have done to communicate with various stakeholders and departments to ensure a hospital is eventually constructed,” said Mthethwa.
He added that land for the hospital site has been secured from Mondi.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane confirmed during her Budget Speech on Wednesday that a community health centre would be built in Mtubatuba and that construction would begin in August.
Simelane said former mayor Verus Ngcamphalala had made the request and so construction in Ward 4 (Mtubatuba town) is set to get under way.
