Another ‘big five’ – top 5 skinny dipping sites in SA

Here are SA's top skinny-dipping beaches...

If nude is more than just your favourite colour, you will be glad to know that South Africa has five of the world’s top 100 skinny dipping beaches.

A recent study done by MyDatingAdviser.com took into consideration weather, water temperature, safety, blue flag status, pollution, air and hotel cost.

It is safe to say that our beloved country did well with the seven key metrics of skinny dipping friendliness.

If you are reading this and wondering just where you can flaunt your birthday suit, here are SA’s top skinny dipping beaches in order:

1. Mpenjati Nature Reserve, Palm Beach, Port Edward (KZN south coast)
2. Otter Trail, Tsitsikamma National Park (Garden Route, Western Cape)
3. Jonkershoek Tweede Waterval, Stellenbosch (Western Cape)
4. Sardinia Bay (Gqeberha)
5. Sandy Bay (Cape Town)

Being nude may not be for everyone, but there are people who enjoy the freedom that comes with skinny dipping.

For some, it provides a thrill and escape from the stress of everyday life, while for others it takes away the restriction of clothing.

Body positivity has become a pressing issue in society, so MyDatingAdviser.com has issued its own list of rules for nudists to follow.

Here they are:

1. Be respectful and use discretion. Try not to traumatise any small kids. We agree the human body is beautiful, but give people the opportunity not to look at you if they don’t want to

2. Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray. You don’t want to get sunburnt in that spot that usually doesn’t see the light of day

3. Don’t skinny dip drunk. A little liquid courage could help you get naked, but if you are completely drunk, swimming isn’t safe and could land you in a dangerous situation

4. Beware of leeches. With a bathing suit, they are one thing, but when you are stark naked, it’s another

5. Make sure your friends are comfortable. If everyone is happy to strip down, go for it

6. Keep your eyes on people’s faces. Interact as you usually would and keep physical contact to a minimum

7. No photos. If only celebrities and politicians could learn this too

8. It’s not a big deal. Get over yourself and have fun. Remember that not even swimsuit models look like that in real life. So relax and enjoy being naked.
