Empangeni police issue warning about job scam

A man was conned out of money when scammers promised him a job at Empangeni SAPS

Police have warned the public not to pay money to secure a job at SAPS.

This comes after a man was conned out of money when scammers promised him a job at Empangeni SAPS.

“The victim explained that he received a call from an unknown man who promised him a job at Empangeni SAPS on condition he pays him a huge amount of money,” said King Cetshwayo Police cluster spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase.

“The conman allegedly said after sending money through Money Market, he must go straight to Empangeni SAPS to do the paperwork and get his police uniform.

“I need to state that the police have their own recruitment policies. We do not take money from job seekers but advertise the available vacancies.

“The applicants shortlisted go through our internal recruitment procedures.”

Shangase said residents who are targeted by such scammers should make a note of the telephone number that contacted them and report it to their local police station.
