A chance for upcoming filmmakers to shine

THE KZN Film Commission (KZNFILM) is inviting eligible filmmakers to submit proposals

The programme aims to give a voice to entry-level filmmakers and hold their hands as they put together their first masterpiece, equipping them with creative expertise.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to think outside the box and with style, genre, and cinematic theories.
Those interested may submit intellectually challenging concepts that dissect, challenge, and make sense of our society as the world shifts.

Each film to be funded up to R120 000 for development.

KZNFILM launched its film fund in July 2014, and is for the production and development of television, feature films, short films, animation, and documentary content.

It also caters for marketing and distribution, audience development, and markets and festivals.

KZNFILM encourages applications from producers who have written, produced or worked in any capacity on student films or have limited production experience, such as internships or assistants, or have directed student films.

Successful projects will go through a development process, which entails attending a series of workshops over a seven to nine month period to assist the filmmakers through the development process alongside an ensemble of reputable story development specialists.

At the end of the development process, all developed projects will pitch for production funding. Successful projects will then be offered production funding and once production has been successfully completed, these projects will be offered to a broadcast partner for a licence fee, in consultation with the owner of the content.

All projects are to be written and produced in minimum 80% IsiZulu for final submission.

All application queries must be directed to KZNfilmfund@kznfilm.co.za with the subject heading: Made for TV Quality Boost Programme Application.

Closing date is midnight on 19 February 2023.
