More disruptive rain on the way to Zululand region

SA Weather Service issues warning for widespread thunder showers

HEAVY, disruptive rain is set to persist across the Zululand region as the SA Weather Service (SAWS) issues yet another warning.

The level 2 warning for disruptive rain is in place from midday today (Friday) until 10pm, and could bring a significant amount of rainfall to affected areas, which may lead to localised flooding.

Affected areas include Big 5 Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba, Nkandla, Nongoma, Pongola, Ulundi, uMhlabuyalingana and uMhlathuze.

The weather service warns of possible damage to mud-based houses, and poor driving conditions over parts of northern KZN.

“Widespread showers and thunder showers are expected over KZN. Significant rainfall is expected and, given the recent flooding across the province, the soil is still saturated,” said SAWS.

“These may result in a localised flood risk to areas prone to flooding.”
