“Covid-19 has seen a once-in-a-generation shift to online shopping in South Africa, and it’s a change we believe is here to stay,” said Neil Schreuder, chief of strategy and innovation for the Shoprite Group.

The group said response to the service, which first launched in a few neighbourhoods in the Western Cape and Gauteng in 2019, has been exceptional owing to its convenience and ease.

It allows residents to shop for grocery items in the comfort of their own homes using the Sixty60 mobile app, where they are able to choose the items they need and have them delivered right to their doorstep in just 60 minutes.

“The supermarket’s team of delivery drivers has been busy – since the launch of Sixty60, they have driven the equivalent to the moon and back five times,” said Schreuder.
