Calls to use water sparingly

Mhlathuze Water supply system is sitting at 100.2%

Despite dams being at satisfactory levels after recent rainfall, communities are urged to save water.

A national weekly report issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) indicates that water levels across the country have increased to 93.7% last week, compared with the previous week’s 92.9%.

KZN levels increased by 1%, to 91.8%.

DWS spokesperson Wisane Mavasa said KZN water supply systems have also risen this week.

Mhlathuze Water supply system is sitting at 100.2% compared to [the previous] week’s 99.8%.

“Our reservoirs are sitting at comfortable levels now, but we still appeal to our communities to be prudent when they use water.

“Despite our dams being at satisfactory levels, most areas are still experiencing water supply challenges which are aggravated by load-shedding.

“Therefore, extreme caution by water users is still critical to ensure sustainable water supply in the country,” said Mavasa.
