How to keep your pets safe during Armed Forces Day activities in Empangeni and Richards Bay

There will be excessive noise during rehearsals and parades, particularly in the Meerensee area of Richards Bay

Armed Forces Day activities have commenced, with Richards Bay and Empangeni the focal point for commemorations until 21 February.

South African and other nations’ navies are set to participate in the events commemorating Armed Forces Day, as are other military units.

‘We have been warned that there will be excessive noise during rehearsals and parades, particularly in the Meerensee area of Richards Bay with night shoots and capability demonstrations scheduled for Alkantstrand and Naval Island respectively’.

There may also be military exercises in Empangeni, near the SPCA.

Both the Empangeni and Richards Bay SPCAs urge all pet owners to ensure their animals cannot escape the yard should they get scared during noisy events, and to keep them inside where possible.

In the unfortunate event that your pet does escape, your first call should be to your nearest SPCA in case it has been brought in to the kennels, so be sure to keep these numbers handy (below).

You can also speak to your vet about calming tablets for your pets.

These will help keep your furry family members calm during the demonstrations. Keep an eye on the City of uMhlathuze Facebook page for the programme of scheduled events.
