WATCH: DA KZN Leader to engage police on Jozini Dam shooting

International tourists on the dam came under fire by suspected elephant poachers last month

The DA in KZN on Wednesday engaged the local community in Jozini as part of an oversight visit to the area following the incident in which international tourists on the dam came under fire by suspected elephant poachers last month.

The engagement aimed to find solutions and address the crime and potential job losses owing to the incident.

DA KZN Leader Francois Rodgers said, according to the people with whom he has engaged, there was evidence against the poachers but, to date, no action has been taken.

“I will engage with KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to get an update on the case, including that of a police officer who was shot [in a separate incident in the area],” said Rodgers.

“Over the last two days, we have had fruitful engagements with all stakeholders and are hopeful we can come to an agreement and find a solution,” added Rodgers.
