Toll fee payment to resume at N2 uThongati and uMvoti plazas

TOLL fee respite for motorists who regularly travel on the N2 between northern KZN and the Durban area will come to an end after Sanral this morning (Thursday) announced the resumption of fees at the uThongati and uMvoti plazas.

This after the completion of repairs to flood-damaged infrastructure on the R102 and M4 near these plazas.
The resumption of toll fees on the N2 route will come into effect on Wednesday, 1 February.

Sanral suspended toll fees at these plazas after the KZN flooding last April, to ease the economic burden on communities already hit hard by the loss of property and livelihoods.

Owing to greatly damaged road infrastructure on the R102 and M4 alternative routes, commuters who do not usually make use of the N2 toll route were forced to do so.

Sanral Eastern Region manager Dumisani Nkabinde said while toll collection will resume on the N2 uThongati mainline and north ramp and uMvoti mainline and all ramps for all vehicles, fees on the N2 uThongati south ramp will remain suspended until access along the M4 uThongati river bridge is restored.

“The R102 and M4 were alternative routes to the toll plazas, but were so badly damaged that road users were compelled to use uThongati and uMvoti toll plazas on the N2 to get around,” said Nkabinde.

“Our contractors have been working round the clock to repair damaged infrastructure and restore access to the R102 and M4. Both these roads are now fully open to traffic and access to the uThongathi river bridge is imminent. We wish to thank road users for their patience during this time and wish them safe travels,” said Nkabinde.
