Three crewmen safely located after vessel capsizes off Tugela Mouth

The crew are exhausted and dehydrated, but otherwise in good health

AFTER being thrown off their vessel at sea off Tugela Mouth and spending more than three hours in the water, three crewmen were safely located a short while ago (Thursday).

Initial reports from IPSS Medical Rescue were that there was a vessel in distress off the coast of Mandeni.

Lifeguards from the area were dispatched and located the casualty vessel but the crewmen were reported missing.

NSRI from Richards Bay, Ballito and Durban were activated, and IPSS conducted beach patrols.

“All three crew were located safe on the beach. Their boat came into difficulty while attempting to beach and they were thrown from their vessel, but were able to swim to shore safely and have been located by IPSS Medical Rescue,” said Samantha Meyrick, IPSS spokesperson.

“All three men are exhausted and dehydrated from their experience, but are otherwise in good health.”
