City implements two-hour load-shedding, twice a day

The new load-shedding schedule will be effective as of tomorrow (Friday)

CITY of uMhlathuze residents and businesses will get some reprieve from the solid four hours of load shedding imposed by Stage 6 and will endure only two-hour power outages, twice a day as of tomorrow (Friday).

This was announced by the uMhlathuze Municipality on Thursday following Eskom’s decision to implement Stage 6 load shedding on Tuesday afternoon due to plant breakdowns.

“To comply with Stage 6 load requirements, blocks have been re-grouped.

“This means that the new block arrangement will have two-hour load shed outages twice per day in stages 5 and 6,” said uMhlathuze Head of Section for Electricity and Energy Services, Dolf Marais.

He said businesses, however, will experience a single outage during stage 5, but will have the two-hour outages, twice a day during stage 6.

“We do regret the inconvenience while we are forced to choose the lesser of two evils,” said Marais.

The new schedule will come into effect tomorrow (Friday) at 6am and will remain effective until further notice.

The city’s electrical portfolio committee convened a special meeting on Thursday morning to review the load-shedding schedule following requests from city businesses and residents.
