WATCH: Feral cat calls Richards Bay SPCA staff to show them her kittens

Mother cat seeks help from SPCA staff

THE love of a proud mother was on full display at Richards Bay SPCA on Wednesday when a feral cat living in the surrounding greenbelt called the SPCA staff to show them her brand new litter of kittens.

“The mother cat visited us for the first time over the weekend, and we could see she had kittens somewhere because she was lactating,” said SPCA manager Shelly Prinsloo.

“We fed her, dewormed her and gave her tick and flea treatment, and provided her with a warm place to sleep.”

Shelly said, while they searched all over for her kittens, they could not find them.

She said they did not put the cat in a kennel because she would then not be able to get to her kittens.

“Today she came back to us at our front gate and started calling us. She wanted us to follow her, so we did,” said Shelly on Wednesday.

“We walked quite a distance away from the SPCA, she then crossed the road and entered the bush, leading us right to her babies.

“She came all the way to us on her own to get help for herself and her babies. This was truly amazing and we were so touched by this.”

The mother cat and her kittens were safely relocated from their greenbelt ‘nest’ to one of the kennels at the SPCA where they will enjoy regular meals, warmth and eventually be adopted out to their own forever homes.
