Funding for CPF structures is imminent

Speaking during a Crime Prevention Izimbizo in Durban

POLICE Minister Bheki Cele has assured the nation that the funding for community policing forums (CPFs) is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’.

Speaking during a Crime Prevention Izimbizo in Durban, Cele said he agrees that CPFs must be better supported and provided with resources to assist police in crime detection and prevention.

“We know and appreciate the role of CPFs, neighbourhood watches, street patrollers, and similar anti-crime structures in the policing value chain. This is why the call by communities to fund CPFs is being addressed at the highest level,” he said.

The imbizo was attended by the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service (CSPS) – an entity of the Police Ministry – the SAPS, and the provincial Community Safety departments in all nine provinces.
