Mtubatuba municipal speaker protection order case postponed

The application is against former municipal speaker

THE court application for a protection order by Mtubatuba Municipality Speaker Dipuo Ntuli has been postponed to 19 October.

The application is against her successor, Sibongile Shezi and Deputy Mayor Nothile Mthethwa, however, the matter may still be settled out of court.

Shezi and Mthethwa’s legal representative, Siphamandla Mbatha, said the postponement was to allow the parties to continue negotiations so the matter may be settled ‘for the best interest of the municipality’.

“The speaker said there needs to be stability at the municipality,” said Mbatha.

Ntuli made the application based on her allegation that Shezi and Mthethwa physically and verbally assaulted her on 10 January when she was council speaker.

According to Ntuli, the alleged assault occurred in her office where the pair confronted her, demanding she call a council meeting to deal with the removal of the municipality’s then leadership.

This included Ntuli, and the ANC’s Mbongeleni Gina as mayor and his comrade Ntokozo Mlungwana as his deputy.
