According to a resident Londa Mashiyane, the news was brought to his attention by his son who was driving past the scene.

He said they contacted the relevant authorities, and a number of community members were on their way to the scene.

“I am told the lions were eating a cow,” said Mashiyane, speaking to the Zululand Observer this evening. “I, too, am on my way to the stadium.”

This sighting comes after numerous animal escapes from Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in recent weeks.

Wildlife to have escaped the game reserve include white and black rhino, several lions, African wild dog, elephant and buffalo.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife said it has made inroads with repairing the damaged perimeter fence, having employed more than 200 people to carry out fence repairs and monitor the fence line.
