uMkhanyakude water plant to run permanently to ensure ceaseless water supply

THE Shemula Water Treatment Works in Jozini will now operate for 24 hours-a-day to ensure a ceaseless water supply.

This after uMkhanyakude District Mayor Siphile Mdaka on Thursday visited the plant, accompanied by the council’s Chief Whip Siyabonga Khumalo and Jozini Municipality Councillor Talent Ntimbane for an assessment.

Mdaka was told by workers at the scheme that, although it was supplying water and had begun working efficiently following his intervention earlier in the year, there was a need to increase the number of workers at the plant.

According to the workers, this would ensure water supply reaches areas where it presently does not. These areas include Madonela, Welcome, Scabazini, Bhekabantu and Empophomeni.

The mayor said the scheme would, from Friday, operate 24 hours-a-day.

The water treatment plant, which provides potable water to households in the northern parts of Jozini and uMhlabuyalingana, was earlier in the year resuscitated after seven years of not working.
