Relief pours in for KZN flood victims

Thanks to a corporate-NPO partnership, more than 400 people receive nutritious meals daily

MORE than 400 people in KZN receive a nutritious meal every day, thanks to a partnership between the Umhlanga Women’s Association (UWA) and Knorr.

The UWA is an NPO that was founded in the wake of last year’s civil unrest that devastated vast swathes of KZN.

Last week, they opened a community kitchen to provide nutritious food to struggling communities in the area.

Showing its support, Knorr has committed to contributing R50 000 monthly to UWA.

This will assist the NPO in delivering more than 400 daily meals to the frail, elderly, and vulnerable who cannot leave their homes to get food.

The organisation depends solely on donations from sponsors, and the commitment by Knorr will go a long way in encouraging other brands to participate.

“We appreciate this financial commitment in supporting our initiative, which will assist us to feed more people.

“As an NPO, we are always in need of such partnerships, especially with food brands as they have excess products we can use when preparing these meals,” commented Praneetha Aniruth, founder and chairperson of UWA.

Nicole Harris, marketing manager at Knorr said: “Knorr is on a mission to reinvent food for humanity in three ways; champion dietary diversity, more plant-based meals, and more sustainable ways to grow food.

This partnership resonates with our aim of ensuring that our communities have access to sustainable and nutritious foods.’’
